Saline nasal irrigation
and gargling a new treatment option for COVID-19
In a recent study that was published in nature Journal and journal of global health(1)(2); researchers found that saline solution (NaCl) has an antiviral effect that works across viral types including corona virus infections.
Researchers also found that saline nasal irrigation and gargling may have a role to play in reducing symptoms and duration of illness in COVID-19.
These Impressive results were reached after the analysis of data from a Study conducted by Edinburgh and Lothians foundation that showed saline nasal irrigation and gargling reduced the duration of URTI by 1.9 days over-the-counter medication use by 36%, transmission within household contacts by 35%.
The scientific explanation for these results is that epithelial cells mount an antiviral effect by producing hypochlorous acid or bleach from chloride ions. Epithelial cells have this innate antiviral immune mechanism to clear viral infections. Since bleach is effective against all virus types.
Moreover, using nasal saline spray and irrigation is recommended to be used as safe and effective adjunctive treatment by different treatment guidelines of nasal disorders.
Amman Pharmaceutical Industries proudly provides a wide range of Nasal Saline Solution products under the brand APISAL.
